ACRSN Newsletter
1. ACRSN goes Australasian
We have great pleasure in announcing that the ACRSN has changed its name to the Australasian Classical Reception Studies Network. Those with keen eyes will have already spotted the introduction of elements from the landscapes of Auckland and Oamaru into the ACRSN website banner to reflect this change. Assoc. Prof. Robin Bond of the department of Classics at the University of Canterbury has agreed to act as the NZ liaison for the network. If you know of anybody working on reception topics in New Zealand, please encourage them to add themselves to the directory of researchers via the on-line form on the acrsn website (www.acrsn.org). Information about events, conferences, and exhibitions can be e-mailed either to Robin
(robin.bond@canterbury.ac.nz) or myself (info@acrsn,org).
2. Classical Reception Studies at ASCS 2007, Newcastle.
The study of the reception of the Classical World was well- represented at the most recent ASCS conference, held in Newcastle 5-7 February. Highlights included two panels devoted to the afterlife of Greek and Roman drama, epic, and poetry as well as a workshop devoted to modern staging of Greek drama led by Michael Ewans. Details about the papers (incl. abstracts) can be found at: www.newcastle.edu.au/ school/hss/eventdetailsascsconference.html
3. Forthcoming Activities
Lorna Hardwick of the UK-based CRSN is keen to develop further links between our two networks. Current proposals include an e-debate/ discussion on the current state of reception studies here and in the UK and an e-seminar which showcases current work in the field. We are also currently exploring collaborative possibilities with the APA committee on the Classical Tradition. Stay tuned for further details.
If anybody has any suggestions for other activities, please get in touch.
