Vikings Research Network in Ireland

In early July 2008, Dr Katrina Burge (Melbourne) and Lisa Bennett (Flinders) met in Killaloe, Co. Clare for the first international meeting of the Vikings Research Network. The meeting was held at St Flannan's Cathedral, which was built c. 1200 and contains a unique Ogham stone with Runic writing dating back to the late 10th century. Thanks to Katrina's savvy organisation skills, both she and Lisa were permitted to study, photograph and transcribe the stone's inscriptions after the Cathedral had closed for the day. It was a very fruitful meeting -- next year's international gathering is scheduled for Sweden in August (see you there, Shane!)
