hello Yasmin,
Re. news pages; I've not made news pages myself, except a couple of test ones just now. I've re-read Toby's help pages related to news pages (in *Using Confluence* space as per usual). This is how I understand it: news pages are a variation on normal pages, so you create them just like you would all other pages. They come with a few extras to do with tracking time automatically, such as the calendar on the right, also the date is inserted automatically when you create a news item (so I'm guessing there's a special template used). Because of that setup, news pages are probably less suitable for purposes other than sharing dated news.
Have a look at the space of the MUSIC cluster: click on Browse space and then on NEWS, there's a test message from Jane, the coordinator, and an exchange of comments that followed.
Another thing that I've noticed is that you cannot restrict viewing the news page (whereas you can set restrictions with normal pages); I'll find out why that is.

Hello Yasmin,
as far as I'm aware there's no DB software, similar to say filemaker pro built into Confluence, tho Confluence is searchable, so in some sense it is a DB. Confluence producer says it is extensible, I'd expect you could add a plugin with a DB. Have you got a particular product in mind or have you got particular requirements for data storing? If you're not too busy at the conference, we could have a chat about it ... in fact, post-conference might be even better

Hello Yasmin,
I'm processing your cluster members, do you think they will be interested in having personal spaces set up or will they only be requiring login in order to work in your shared spaces?
Regarding the database, I've had a chat to Toby, we'll need to have more details: what's your record structure?
would you like your associates to be able to add/edit records or just browse?
how complex would your searches be?
I'm happy to come up to your office and you can give me a quick demo

Hi Ela
I notice that your comments are visible to me on the dashboard even before I log in. Is there any way to restrict them?
I doubt the cluster members will want their own spaces.
We haven't built the database yet, but it would be pretty standard. Some of the records might contain longish text extracts. The associates would need to be able to add and edit records. If it's going to be very complicated we'll just exchange our own Excel files ...
Also, have a look at the Dashboard before you log in and see the absence of a link to a comment on this page: TestPageRestricted to Confluence Users Only

Hello Yasmin,
I can see you're not wasting time at all, good . Could you add a descriptive blurb on the Home page in the PSYCHO space? Have you set a watch on the space: in Browse Space/Advanced/Start watching this space (instructions in the workshop handout). If you have, you would have got an auto email with my comment. I've not allowed other NEER confluence users to leave comments in that space, would you like me to change that? Other registered users would do that on the Home page only provided you restrict viewing of other pages to your cluster only.
I've done it for Agata and Maurizio when setting up their log in. i've not offered them spaces, but if they would like that (for example to make their own pages etc.), we can do that too. We'll need their paper forms returned to Pam Bond with your signature on them (ARC requirement).

Hiya Yasmin,
You've got it worked out spot on! That's how I've backed up my files too. Of course nothing's stopping you from backing up files for public view, all you do is attach them to a page that doesn't have restrictions.
I wouldn't worry about eebo copyright if it's for your work you share with the team, eebo doesn't have draconian restrictions, do they? ela

Hi, Yasmin. I am in Confluence finally. What a nice space! I am going to explore it. Yesterday Agata and I saw 13 small volumes of Rime degli Arcadi: there is nothing by Burgundi; so, those two poetries are unpublished, if they still exist. But we transcribed two carmina on light and Aurora borealis by G. Ferrari; they are on my laptop, at home: tomorrow I will send you the texts.
I read your interview at the radio (I hoped to get the audio): great, absolutely great (there are so nice images, as the latin swept under the carpit and so on). And, in my opinion, it is very important to say, as you did, that there are many different neolatins.
I am going away from the University. It is very late here. Ci sentiamo domani: sorry for my absurd English.

Hiya Yasmin,
I've just finished your diseases cluster setup; when you left the message in the Diseases space the members didn't have their watches activated yet, so wouldn't have had auto emails sent. I'm leaving another comment there that will send them -- and you -- an alert.
Have you worked out what happened to the watch in your PSYCHO space? ela

May I join your Latin Confluence Group? I have a particular interest in Latin Texts, particularly in the twelfth- to fifteenth centuries.
