This is the page for the NEER Research Cluster entitled Old Norse-Icelandic Studies.

The research cluster in Old Norse-Icelandic studies aims to faciliate the meeting of all Australian researchers in Old Norse-Icelandic studies on a regular basis to exchange ideas and present research findings through the medium of one- or two-day symposia. The cluster also aims to enable some of the international collaborators in the cluster to visit Australia for the purpose of furthering two major research projects currently underway at the University of Sydney:

  • The ARC-funded edition of Skaldic Poetry of the Scandinavian Middles Ages
  • Writing from the edge of the world: medieval Icelandic literature and the quest for social identity

Hi,

I would like to be added to this research cluster please. Last year I completed the Viking and Early Medieval Studies master course at Uppsala University, and I am now enrolled in a PHD at the University of Western Australia on the Norse settlements in ninth-century England. I would expect that belonging to the Old Norse-Icelandic Studies cluster could be of great benefit to my ongoing studies.

Thanks

Hello,

It would be great if I could be added to this research cluster as well. I am currently working on my PhD thesis at Flinders University in Adelaide, which largely deals with motifs in the Icelandic sagas (Íslendinga sögur and the Sturlunga saga compliation) as sites of cultural memory. It would be very helpful to be able to participate in this cluster's discussions.

All the best,

Lisa Bennett

Hi,

I'd like to join this cluster if possible. I'm a postgrad in Religious Studies at University of Sydney and working on a thesis on Old Norse myth and religion.

It'd be great to hear about seminars, new publications and other research.

Regards,

Leon Wild
