The ARC Network for Early European Research has been funded by the Australian Research Council for the period 2005-2009. One of the key components of the original funding application was the use of digital technologies to facilitate and underpin the activities of the Network. In order to implement the digital services envisaged in the original application, the Network appointed a Digital Services Director and set aside funds for a Digital Services Programme.

  • Create and make available digital content based on the collections of Australian cultural institutions;
  • Provide access to commercial digital resources for Network participants;
  • Use digital technologies to facilitate communication and collaboration between Network participants.

Scope

  • Develop and manage content for the Network's Web site;
  • Develop and manage channels for electronic communication and collaboration between Network participants;
  • Implement and manage Web services for distributing information about Network research outcomes;
  • Implement and manage Web services for providing access to relevant research resources.

Deliverables & outcomes

  • A research repository for storing and making available the reports, papers and publications of Network participants (now known as PioNEER);
  • A Web site with information about and for Network participants (now included in Confluence and the NEER Web site);
  • A software environment for communication and collaboration between Network participants, as well as with international partners (Confluence);
  • A resource discovery service for making available relevant digitized objects from the collections of Australian cultural institutions (the Australian Collections Service, now known as "Europa Inventa");
  • Electronic publication of the journal Parergon;
  • Access arrangements for ProQuest and Brepols databases by Network participants.
